Saint Gobain Pipelines extends its usage of COSWIN maintenance system

2008-12-31

Saint Gobain Pipelines (Maanshan) has contracted Siveco to support a challenging reliability improvement project at its Maanshan piping plant. Following the piping plant's ongoing modernization project, almost non-stop operation is required to meet production target in 2009, thus putting increased demand on preventive maintenance.

The Siveco project involves the rapid roll-out of COSWIN CMMS before Chinese New Year, maintenance support services for the setup of optimized preventive maintenance plans in the piping plan, as well as longer-term coaching by Siveco's maintenance experts over a one-year period.

Several other plants at the Saint Gobain production base in Maanshan are already maintained with COSWIN, under centralized site management. The iron making plant implemented COSWIN during construction in 2007, using COSWIN from the first production day. Other units using the CMMS include the sintering plant, the power plant (burning the blast furnace exhaust gases) and various utilities.

The COSWIN implementation at Saint Gobain Pipelines covers all aspects of maintenance, with focus on:

- Building up an accurate technical database
- Systematic recording of failure information (what, when, impact on production) for analysis purposes
- Preventive maintenance (planning, scheduling, execution, optimization)
- Ensuring ease-of-use for maintenance technicians on a daily basis
- Enabling decision-support with maintenance indicators based on European standards
- Tightly interface with corporate ERP system (Fourth Shift) for stock management

Saint Gobain Pipelines boast a long experience with CMMS, with over 30 years' history using such systems in its European factories. In Maanshan, the implementation of another EAM software from the United States had failed a few years before. Siveco's focus on maintenance improvement rather than software has ensured sustainable success to help Saint Gobain achieve its plant management goals. Siveco is proud to continue this long-term cooperation with such an enlightened client as Saint Gobain.
